My First OC Cosplay Backstory

It all began ten thousand years ago. Or so the legend goes, but legends are never known for their accuracy, well, not usually. But this was a tale that had burned itself in the minds of all who saw it unfold. This was not a legend so much, as it was our history. A history that seemed on the surface to be a joke, a story to be told at night for children to spook them or make them wide eyed and curious. But it only took one look around to realise that no joke came from this tale. Only truth. A sad and lonely truth indeed, but truth none the less.

It all started with the belief in 'The Four Temples Of Balance'

These four temples were at the very North of the world (Fire -Hephaestus), the very South (Earth -Gaia), the very East (Water -Poseidon) and the very West (Wind - Aeolus).

People believed that each temple was the resting place of the elements that made up the world.

They believed that each element was a God in its own respect. These four temples were worshipped by different people and those who felt a particular connection to these elements would visit this temple for guidance, wisdom or even just solitude. It was a time of balance, of peace. However, as always, humans began to grow suspicious, defensive and some began to argue which element was the most vital, the most powerful, the most important, arguments turned to anger and anger, as always, turned to conflict.

But this anger was not brought about by sheer chance. Far from it; each temple had a High Priest, a Guardian to protect the temple from any kind of attack. However, as the Guardians spent more and more time within the Temples, they began to realise the great power in which they possessed. At first, they believed this power should be humanity's, but as they plunged in deeper desire over the power, the four began to grow bitter towards humanity, believing they were the only ones who could rightfully claim the power. The great four decided to divide and conquer, encouraging the people of their land to fight in the name of their God, to bring justice upon the other three. They planted fear in their mind and swallowed their hearts in greed at the idea of unlimited power.

For many years, people began to fight over which temple should be supreme, the balance was distorted and soon people began to try and figure out ways to take control of their elements power, to use it for themselves. Knowing that the temple was the power source of each element, people began to try and destroy and find the source of each temple's power for themselves and war broke out quickly over this. This desire for one supreme temple turned into a lust for the power of all four temples and soon it became a battle for ultimate power.

For the legends also told, that once in the Earth's existence, the four elements would rise together to form a power known as 'Light' to protect Earth from any threat. This power was said to be unlimited and it was this power that eventually became the focus of mankind. However, when the third temple finally fell and the last remaining finally had the power of all three others, but having waited all this time, the Four High Priests stole the power that the people had fought for and claimed it as their own. Then, something dreadful happened.

Nobody knows exactly what happened or even how they obtained the powers of the elements, but instead of a beautiful 'Light', the impure thoughts of mankind tainted and poisoned the elements and instead, Darkness consumed the Priests, their souls were lost to the shadows, the price for never aging, for power unlike any other and just like that, humanity fell to the power of the once 'Great Four' and an age of darkness fell over the Earth, for which it seemed it would never awaken from.

The Gods, who had severely weakened by the disorder in humanity could do little but watch as their people, their children fought and killed each other in greed. They knew that this race of humanity could not save itself. So they did what they could, they stored the very soul and essence of their being deep in the Earth's core, only to be awakened when someone, who matched their own soul, who had the strength to control their power, to use it to its full potential would be blessed and united with their own soul.

But for ten thousand years...it seems as it that has never been the case....

The world has moved on, many accepting this life style. Demons had shortly come to Earth by the power of The Great Four, many with high ranks to keep the humans in check. It was a cruel but liveable lifestyle for many. The poor were slave labours, the middle class worked for the Kingdom and the upper class had managed to worm their way into the good books of the Kingdom or chose to simply flee to the country, where they could hide in silence and peace, for the most part.

But, not everyone is willing to let this go. Some believe in fighting for their lives, for their freedom and have formed the "E.F.F" , Earth's Freedom Fighters, a large, underground organisation dedicated to trying to bring down the Kingdom. It has survived as a group for five hundred years, but all they can pray for, is that one day they will be able to see the light of the God's in their chosen ones, for without them, there is no hope for freedom.
